We built Sazkabet a new platform that can handle even peak hockey traffic

Sazkabet is a sports betting platform operated by Allwyn Czech Republic (formerly Sazka a.s.). As part of the largest lottery company in the Czech Republic, the website must handle extreme traffic and display accurate odds in real time – even when several million people are following a single event. The original “off-the-shelf” solution could no longer meet these demands, so instead of redesigning it, we built a completely new platform from the ground up. Its quality was confirmed in December 2025 when it received the Kentico Site of the Month award.
What needed to change
The original website ran on a closed, off-the-shelf solution with an outdated design and minimal scope for development. It could not scale in performance or support further platform development. The aim was therefore not another redesign, but a new foundation for digital betting — faster, more stable and ready for the future.
The website also needed to be adapted to the specific environment of sports betting, where accurate, up-to-date data must be displayed in a fraction of a second. The biggest challenge was the extensive integration of WebSockets and maintaining stability during extreme visitor numbers — typically during the Ice Hockey World Championship, when Sazkabet traditionally breaks traffic records. The 2025 World Championship in Czechia alone attracted 6.82 million viewers, making it the most watched championship in four years.

Our approach
We built the platform on a microservices architecture (.NET Aspire) with Xperience by Kentico (XbyK) CMS, enabling it to handle extreme traffic while allowing room for future growth. We developed the frontend as a single-page application in Vue.js, connected via WebSocket for real-time odds updates. Redis cache then reduced the response time of key platform components from seconds to milliseconds — so users see the latest odds instantly, without refreshing the page.
The platform also connects four external betting and sports data systems (OpenBet, Sportradar, Trefík, Aristocrat) in real time, integrates with Allwyn’s internal Business Intelligence, and provides an API for mobile applications. The result is a fast, stable and clear platform that brings everything together in one seamless experience.
What the project delivered
Over 15 months, an entirely new platform was created, replacing the closed “box” solution with a modern, scalable architecture. In live operation, it proved what it was designed for – handling record hockey betting peaks without interruption.
Its quality was also confirmed by the independent Kentico Site of the Month award (December 2025). The judging panel highlighted real-time odds management, the breadth of integrations, the scalable architecture and the seamless customer journey.
The new platform has also supported business growth: according to the Allwyn 2025 annual report, the Czech betting segment recorded GGR of €8 million, compared with €7 million in 2024 – a 14% year-on-year increase.
